Cambodia Plans to Break Two More World Records During Angkor Sangkran 2023

Phnom Penh: The Royal Government has announced that the Angkor Sangkran will be allowed in 2023, following a four-year hiatus. The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) has stated that in 2023, Angkor Sangkran will be even bigger, with 44 entertainment activities over six locations.

Mr Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), confirmed at a press conference on the preparations for the 10th anniversary of Angkor Sangkran 2023, under the theme "Dreams and Hopes" that the event is not only to celebrate the Khmer New Year but also to link with the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023, which is hosted by Cambodia.

Secretary of State for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Sok Sabayna, said that during the Angkor Sangkran 2023, Cambodia plans to break two more world records. "I won't go into specifics regarding which world record just yet; I'll provide more information later," he said.

According to Mr Sok Sabayna, the event of Angkor Sangkran 2023 will be more special than before. The giant Num Ansom and other giant traditional artifacts from the previous Angkor Sangkran will be included in the upcoming Angkor Sangkran 2023.

He said that the Angkor Sangkran will be during April 14–16, 2023, but before the Angkor Sangkran, during April 8–9, Cambodia will organize a marathon, cycling program, concerts at Angkor Park, and boat rides along the Siem Reap River.

Mr Sok Sabayna stated that during the Angkor Sangkran festival in 2018, Siem Reap province earned more than $1 million US from 1.8 million tourists who visited Cambodia.

At Angkor Sangkran in 2015, Cambodia broke the Guinness World Record for the Madison Dance with more than 2015 dancers and a giant cake weighing 4 tons.

In 2017, Cambodia broke the world record for the longest Chapei Dang Veng (traditional music instrument) with a length of 7.70 meters, in 2018; Cambodia broke two other world records, including the longest boat (racing canoe) in the world (87.3 meters long) and the longest giant krama (1,449 meters long).
